Toronto Theatres Map

Below is a map of the ‘nabes, movie palaces, theatoriums and nickel shows that have graced Toronto streets, store-fronts and alley-ways since the first flicker of the Lumiere Cinematograph in 1896, many of which have been profiled at Silent Toronto.

Zoom in and click on the markers — you’ll find basic info on the theatres as well as links to features and opening night ads. The map was created as a means to aggregate our website’s content; after four years of articles, stuff easily gets buried.

Sources for opening/closing dates are from various Toronto newspapers (Star, G&M, Telegram, Star Weekly, Sunday World).

The bulk of this map would not exist were it not for the data provided by Paul Moore of the Canadian Theatre Historical Project at Ryerson University. Silent Toronto is eternally grateful.
